Punctuation Please! And… Can You Spell?

Yes, all those lessons in English class have pretty much become vital. All we seem to do nowadays is text, text, and text!

Type, type, and type!…Because forget handwriting!

Not too long ago, our teachers insisted on perfect handwriting…I particularly recall having to write page after page of the letter “F”… followed by the “k”… in perfect formation.

I also remember having a discussion with my son’s teacher about the fact that I thought “handwriting” wasn’t going to be necessary in his future life…that was about 24 years ago. At the time, I thought that the important thing was that he could spell perfectly. However, I now believe that with the advent of artificial intelligence, even that may be a thing of the past!

But punctuation… that’s another matter…put the comma in the wrong place… and wars could start! Seriously! In this age in which we are living; a time when a simple phone call has been replaced by a text, it is imperative that we use correct punctuation. If we don’t, then the whole meaning of what we are trying to convey could potentially be completely misunderstood.

For example, it’s not the same to write, “Hey I’m sorry I love you”, when what you mean to say is, “Hey I’m sorry, I love you”.

Disaster…😳

Errors like these are oxymoronic…funny but sad.

Obviously… they meant to type “firsthand”…at least I hope!😂 Grammar!!

What is this obsession with eating children?! 🙄🙄🙄 Punctuation!!

And then again…just one letter can make all the difference…🤔Care for some tea? Spelling!

And YES I’m pretty sure I want to! 😳

The point is that it’s gotten so bad that I have to put most of the messages I receive through some kind of filter…“What did they actually mean to say?”. Therefore, I’ve learned I must ask for clarification over and over again. I can no longer assume.

Frankly, I still think that a phone call would be quicker! 🤣
