I’ve been traveling for the past few days; and if you are a traveler, then you know that at the very least, it will be a challenging experience.
I’m writing this while sitting in what seems to be a popular restaurant in a town called Bergen. This town is in Holland about 40 minutes north of Amsterdam.
The day began like any other day… or so I thought. It turned out to be a day full of frustrating moments that threatened to test my patience and therefore my self control.
It all started the moment that my Uber driver missed the entrance to the drop off point at Heathrow’s Terminal 4, and I was forced to drag my luggage about one block… it was that or risk gridlock as he tried to go around. From that moment on…it was one thing after the other.
KLM wasn’t issuing boarding passes online so basically you had to check in again at the airport. That is when they grabbed me… suddenly the carry ons that I have always traveled with were too big… they made me check in my 21in. bag and of course charged me 49 British pounds. I really didn’t care so much about the money as the risk that it would be lost.
Well, after an unbelievable thorough search of my other carryon bag(you would think I had been flagged as a terrorist or something), confiscation of some of my beauty products, frustrating search for charging stations that actually worked, and futile attempts to find a lounge to relax, I boarded my KLM flight heading to Amsterdam. The poor guy seating next to me got an earful and the brunt of the venting of my frustrations that day…but in my defense…I did make it a funny story…lol.
Then the day ended with a 40 minute taxi ride from Amsterdam Schipol airport to Bergen that was more expensive than the flight from London… go figure.
It was a day where things didn’t seem to flow my way…as they usually do…and I do believe I may be a bit spoiled. After all, I do live a life of privilege and yet I still found reasons to complain when I was inconvenienced a bit here and there. It’s easy to forget if one is not mindfully engaged.
Well at least I admit it!
All is well with life again as I ride my bike down the amazingly lush and beautiful Holland.
I will gratefully strive to remember that I’m one of the luckiest persons on earth as I continue my journey tomorrow to the south of Spain…because I just know that some kind of inconvenience awaits me. 🥹
Yes, I know… I’m a spoiled brat.
