Hazard Reported Ahead

Have you ever almost collided with another car because you just never saw it coming?

If so… it was probably in your blind spot. I’m always surprised… and not pleasantly… whenever that happens.

However, just like in cars, I think we have blind spots in our minds as well. Like when someone does something that takes you completely by surprise even though everyone else could see it coming. However, you just couldn’t see it… or chose not to see it.

Blind spots are dangerous; and we all have them. We are all guilty of not being able to see the whole picture…to be unable to really see all that could or is affecting us. To be blindsided by an illusion.

If I’m in my car, all I need to do is make a little adjustment to the side view mirrors or maybe the rear view mirror… and then Voilà…I can see! But most likely, I’ll be made aware of the potential danger by the annoying honk of a horn. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had side view mirrors to help us navigate through life?

It is interesting how we can pin point the blind spots for others around us. Just like we can see a near collision ahead of us in the expressway. It’s easy when they aren’t our own.

It seems that even when we are told that the hazard is there…I mean…even when we are startled by the metaphorical “honk of the horn”…we will not see it. It’s truly in our blind spot.

Sometimes I believe it’s more like we choose to wear blinders; like the ones worn by a race horse. This we do so that nothing can distract us from our imaginary goal. It’s simple really… we see what we want to see; and then you we are hit!

It always irks me when this happens even though the red flags (which of course I chose to ignore) were being waved in front of my nose. Human behavior fascinates me. Truly.

Can you imagine navigating through life with blinders on? It’s bound to be a very frustrating, limiting, and dangerous experience.

An accident waiting to happen… ? YES! Please wear your seatbelts!
