Escape To The Unknown

The “unknown” is exactly why I happen to love traveling. It stirs my juices, feeds my imagination, and opens up my horizons so very much, that I don’t see a limit. Experiencing the new can be scary and exhilarating; but it is definitely an infusion of energy; a shot of adrenaline.

Sometimes I think that it’s all about learning something new. I can’t imagine my life without it. It is truly my escape from the proverbial comfort zone. That comfort zone that could potentially trap me on a humdrum life.

Oh, yes, I know that we humans like our little space. Most of us like our little routines and that sunken spot in the family room couch. Some of us may even have a favorite coffee cup. Whatever it is, we miss it when we are away from home. That is all fine and dandy as long as you don’t let it control you.

It struck me that people become so attached to their things, routines, bed, roles, and to the familiar, that they don’t even realize that in fact, those attachments can be imprisonments.

Imprisonments because it prevents them from enjoying the new. In other words, they will not embrace change, albeit unconsciously, and that is tragic…because change is the spice of life. Without it, life is bland.

I think that is why people love the movies or even Facebook. It allows some folks to live what they don’t dare to live themselves. Those platforms make it possible to live vicariously through others. I have lost count of how many times I have been told something like, “I live vicariously through you”, or “oh.. that is in my bucket list!”.

We all have that “bucket list”; that is not the issue… the issue is “what are you doing about it?”.

It may be something as simple as walking in the rain and feeling the needle-like raindrops hitting your face.

It could also be jumping into that freezing lake, leaping from that mountain and into an abysm, or taking off without an agenda with a one-way ticket to who knows where.

Are you an over planner?

Or…

Do you allow the flow to take you for a wild ride once in a while?

Would you act on an impulse that may lead you to adventure?

Personally, I want to feel the uncertainty, and I want to be a bit scared. Because that is when I really grow as a person.

I definitely adore to be surprised, and love to be amazed. I even enjoy that tingling under the armpits when one has a close call, or a brush with death. Not unlike a roller coaster ride.

Why? Simply because those are the moments when I feel the most alive.
