Blind Faith

Life is about passions. As long as you are passionate about whatever you are doing, you will succeed, you will have fun. One of my passions is traveling.

In this instance, I was on a road trip in Europe with a good friend that feels passion for fast cars. Fast, cool, beautifully designed cars. We were traveling in a black Porsche 992 which also happened to be a convertible.

I’m more of a Jeep type of personality although I have been known to own and enjoy a nice and cool convertible car once in a while. We were also traveling with a group of car enthusiasts…Porsche enthusiasts to be more exact. I have to admit that I was enjoying their enjoyment. It was contagious. That’s what I mean about passion. It is contagious!

One day during our travels we braved the Furka Pass in Switzerland. This is an iconic drive that was made famous in the James Bond movie Goldfinger. It was so much fun to drive! We were surrounded by Ferrari driving groups from Italy, unique motorcycles, and the vibe was very very cool. I have to admit that their love for these fine engineered machines is palpable and you can’t help but become embroiled in their world.

Even though I knew about the Furka Pass…because after all, I am a Bond 007 fan, I may not have ever made the effort to come experience the drive had it not been that I was traveling with my friend. The famous pass had been in her bucket list for a long time, and I was happy to see her so happy too.

It was all that I had imagined and more. Hair raising curves and cliffs through absolutely beautiful country. Exhilarating is the word I was looking for. However, I found that as long as I was driving I was okay…once in a while I would get the tingling under the armpits whenever I came close to maybe…dying!…but I felt better about it because I was in control of the machine. But, when my speed loving friend was at the wheel… huh…well, let’s just say that I had to I had to have faith! It is true that there’s nothing like stepping out of your comfort zone to really feel alive.

Obviously, I was alive to write the story while sipping my coffee at an amazing hotel spa overlooking Lake Garda in the northern part of Italy. All is well that ends well.

I did notice that there was a moment as I was driving into one of the many tunnels in Switzerland when I was completely blinded by the sun; and I had no choice but to trust that the tunnel was there. So in the same way I trust that the pilot in the airplane knows what he does, I decided to trust that my friend also knows what she does… just as she was trusting me. Yes, I may have closed my eyes here and there…I guess you could call it blind faith.
