Going back a few years…and. exactly when I was getting ready to be married, I had to attend a church mandated retreat that was meant to prepare us for the challenge of what marriage was all about. Boy oh boy…I think they completely failed… or maybe we failed the class!
I do remember that during that “retreat” there were several talks… sort of like TED talks… only before they existed.
In one of them, a kind of unpolished guy came out and attempted to teach the men in the group how to take care of their wives. Ok. So far so good.
However, in order to illustrate this…he decides to use an analogy in which he compares the “wife” to a “car”. 🥹
He said, “Men, you take care of your car, right? ”.
And then he went as far as telling them to look under the hood and “check the oil” …and then comparing that to when the woman is ovulating…of course…this as a form of “natural contraception”… If the oil is leaking…stay away…What!? Well…it all just went downhill from that point on.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Of course, I was completely offended. But I have to admit that it made me laugh as well 😆 … especially since I was pretty sure that by soon-to-be -husband didn’t have a clue about cars or how they worked!😂 Did he even know how to check the oil? 🤷♀️
I do recall being a bit expressive and rebellious during that “talk”. Ok…maybe I completely let him know what I was thinking.
I do believe that my soon-to-be-husband probably wished he could have just turn my ignition “off”… Lol!
Anyways…I continue to laugh when I think about that day…
Many years have gone by and I now find myself pondering how accurate was that guy back then.
My ex husband didn’t know much about cars but he did like his boats…Humm… maybe that guy should have used a boat analogy instead…like “if you don’t patch the hole… the boat will sink”…I don’t know!😂
After all it is true about men and their toys!!
In his book “Boys and Their Toys”, bestselling author Bill Adler, Jr. explains that “the key to understanding men is in understanding how they relate to their gadgets. Just because they may seem to show more interest in their computers…or their remote controls…or their fancy watches or their power mowers or their stereos…doesn’t mean that their toys are really the most important things in their life”.
PHEW!… thank you for clarifying that! 😅
I now watch as a “toy” 2010 Jeep Wrangler gets all the attention from my guy. Yes…the attention has shifted from me to “it”.
It’s fun to watch his excitement… and I’m happy it makes him happy to work and play at fixing it…but selfishly I want that attention. Yes…just because…it’s all about me after all! 😊 Hey…At least I admit it!
Helloooo👋 BEEP BEEP!…I AM A JEEP!!
